The Basketball Goal Project

The guys at ITC have been moving steadily towards a common “goal”…a GOAL of their own.
During the past Father’s Conference that was held here in the beginning of March, the guys put together a concession stand to raise money for a permanent basketball goal. Through the diligent efforts of Clayton Rothenhauser and many others and the generosity shown by the fathers that attended the conference, we reached our GOAL.
We began to look for a goal that would last and would be a blessing to both short and tall. =) Finding it wasn’t to hard…but the preparation work was!!
First, we marked a spot. Then began the process of digging through 4 inches of asphalt, 1 foot of small rock and approximately 3½ feet of clay mixed with clay and chunks of brick and concrete.
The final result was a hole that was 16×16″ wide at the top tapering down to roughly a 20×20″ width at the bottom that was 4 feet deep.
Next , with our hole dug we began mixing concrete.
We used 13 bags (weighing 80 lbs. each) and another 50 lb. bag to completely fill the hole. We put four pieces of re-enforcement bar down into the wet concrete along with the final anchor plate that the goal would be fastened to. We finished this step just as the last hints of light disappeared in the western sky.
The final step (the one that we all anticipated!!) took place about 3 days after the concrete was poured (to allow proper curing of the concrete). Once again, with many diligent hands we reached our GOAL!!
As a staff, we are very grateful to all those who invested their time, energy and resources in helping us as a team of guys here in INDY reach our GOAL. May you be blessed.![]()

Chad Paine was one of the most important people involved in the project and it would have been very difficult to do it without his diligent efforts.
Excellent effort you all! Go John Michael – With that smile on your face, I reckon the hole passed your inspection.
When we come together in one accord with the same goal in mind, look what can happen! A great example for the local church. Imagine how many points could be stored in heaven with everyone aiming for the same goal working against only one opponent vs. one another!
Congratulations! Isn’t it amazing what you can accomplish with everyone working together as one big team? It looks like a big job but I’m sure it was a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to seeing it next time I’m down that way.
